Maui's Travel Economy Remains Weak in October 2023

October 29, 2023 - Are we in a recovery, or not. Like the Masters of the Economic Universe, we look at the data, and read the tea leaves. After staging steady increases for several weeks, visitor numbers for Maui seem to be slumping going into November. Continuing weekly unemployment claims in Maui County seem to have peaked, but remain high.

And as for rental car rates, not much change this week from the week before. Lowest advertised rates for one week rental starting Monday 10/30, from Kahului Airport (OGG):

Feb. 23, 2026. Maui car rental prices appear to have peaked in mid-February and they are now on their way down to a high season level that they will hold through March until after Spring Break.
