This phrase was originated by Economics Nobel Prize Winner Milton Friedman. The Maui rental car economy is no different. It has taken about a month for airport rental car rates to adjust to the effects of the Lahaina disaster. With idle rental cars everywhere, the rates were due to plummet. Feb. 23, 2026. Maui car rental prices appear to have peaked in mid-February and they are now on their way down to a high season level that they will hold through March until after Spring Break.
