Fall 2024 Season Opens With Opposing Trends For Maui Car Rental Prices

September 22, 2024 - Fall has officially just begun and prices for many of the Maui car rental vehicle categories that we track are going in opposite directions. Prices for convertibles, Jeeps, and SUV's are all down from the previous week, while compact cars, mid-size cars, and minivans are up slightly.
The biggest change is with convertibles, dropping from $820/week for an airport rental to just $460/week at Payless. Jeeps saw a smaller drop from $563/week to $501/week at Avis, and SUV's came down from $397/week to just $329/week at Thrifty.
The price for a minivan is up slightly but staying relatively affordable at just $373/week from Payless (up $9 from last week), Compact cars are at $264/week (up $38), and mid-size cars are up $27, at $291/week.
These prices are all for airport rentals. In most cases, cheaper prices are available for rentals from nearby off-airport locations served by shuttle. See the accompanying chart to compare airport prices vs off-airport for all the vehicle categories listed.
This week's prices for these vehicle categories are tabulated below. These are the lowest advertised prices, from our survey taken on 9/22/24, for a one-week rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG), beginning on Monday, 9/23/24, for seven vehicle categories, Economy Car, Midsize Car, Convertible, Jeep, SUV, 7-passenger SUV, and Minivan. The rental companies covered in the survey are Ace, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, National, NU, Payless, SiXT, and Thrifty. CHEAPEST ONE-WEEK RENTAL PRICES FOR MONDAY 9/23/24
This week the cheapest price for a one week car rental from Maui's Kahului Airport (OGG) is $263 (up $38 from last week). For a rental from nearby off-airport locations served by shuttle, the cheapest price is $207 (up $33). These prices include all taxes and fees, but they do not include insurance or any other optional add-ons like roadside assistance or re-fueling.
These prices have ticked upward from last week. It remains to be seen whether this is a blip or the beginning of an upward trend as prices rise for the fall travel season.
